Checking the validity of a foreign passport: Egypt and the main provisions for entry

Holidays in Turkey, as before, attract a significant number of tourists from Russia. There are several reasons for this. The main one among them is the optimal price-quality ratio offered by the tour operator. Despite the developing domestic recreational infrastructure, so far holidays in Turkey are both cheaper and more eventful. Firstly, the weather here is more stable in the summer and the wind rarely blows, preventing swimmers from spending time at sea. Secondly, Russia has not yet introduced the “all inclusive” standard initiated by the Government of the Russian Federation, which implies full provision of food and drinks for vacationers, included in the price of the tour. Often on the Black Sea coast, tourists from other cities are forced to spend money on food comparable to what is required to pay for accommodation in hotels, inns and holiday homes. In addition, a holiday in Turkey provides an opportunity to buy interesting things, souvenirs and communicate with foreigners from near and far abroad who also love this Turkish coast.

Requirements for a foreign passport

You can fly to Egypt with a foreign passport. First of all, check for the presence of defects. Check the pages for integrity, they should be free of scuffs. Make sure you have enough space left for your stamp and visa.

If your signature is not present, the document will be invalid. Without adhering to these rules, an Egyptian visa will not be available. If you find any drawback, don’t wait - change your passport to have a safe rest at the scheduled time.

New requirements

The rules for entering the country have changed since 2021. An important identification for different countries is the Covid-19 testing certificate. Without this you will not be allowed into the state.

There are also advantages - obtaining a visa is simplified. Now you pay for it at the airport of arrival. A free visa can be obtained in Sharm El Sheikh, but on condition that you do not leave the Sinai Peninsula. In large cities such as Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Aswan and Luxor, a tourist visa costs approximately $25-30 and is valid for up to 30 days.

Standard set of documents for travel:

  • international passport;
  • insurance card;
  • passing a Covid-19 test;
  • travel voucher or confirmed hotel reservation;
  • tickets for a return flight or to another country.

To stay in Egypt, take a Covid-19 test within 72 hours before departure, take out insurance, fill out a migration card and receive a visa upon arrival.

You receive your migration card on the plane or at the airport. Let's figure out what needs to be specified:

  • flight number;
  • departure city;
  • last name and first name;
  • date of birth;
  • international passport - number, series;
  • hotel;
  • write the purpose of the trip;
  • indicate the name of the child (which is included in the certificate).

A child who has his own foreign passport also receives a visa.

Document validity period

Currently, you can get two types of passport:

  1. old style;
  2. biometric.

How long is the document valid? An old-style international passport is issued for 5 years and can be obtained in 30 days for adults and children. Europe is gradually moving to new types of ID cards, but so far there has been no law prohibiting applying for a visa with the old type of passport.

The biometric is made for 10 years, a black and white photograph is pasted into it, the information is encoded in the form of a microchip. For active travelers, it is convenient to obtain an old-style passport. Sometimes a visa sticker is pasted onto the entire page, which reduces the space for new stamps.

To be precise, now the validity of a foreign passport should not be less than six months.

The validity of a document for a trip to Egypt can be checked on the Pegas Touristik website by filling in the empty fields with information. Next, you will calculate how long the ID must be valid until and compare the date.

What to do if your passport has expired? You need to submit documents for a new passport. You can register on the official website and submit an application electronically. You should not hope for benefits; the procedure is the same for everyone.

Subtleties of the passport regime

Russian tour operators know what documents are needed to travel abroad, and what nuances tourists may encounter. Sometimes the rules are neglected, allowing a traveler to visit a country with a passport that is less than six months old. This is done to increase the sale of tours. In some cases, the client is asked to provide a receipt stating that he is aware of the discrepancy in the foreign passport and has no claims against the tour operator. All responsibility falls on the tourist.

What should I do if my passport has expired, but my travel visa is still valid? Ask to leave the old copy for you, be sure to collect certificates for registration of another. At the border you show two passports - one with a visa stamped, the second a new one.

If you change your last name or first name, you need to apply for a new passport.

Rules for visa-free entry to Turkey for Russians

There are NO rules for visa-free crossing of the Turkish border by Russian tourists. However, in certain situations, when travelers (their appearance, behavior, condition) may arouse suspicion or increased attention from border police officers, additional control and closer familiarization of Turkish officials with the purposes of the visit, route, duration of stay and sources of payment cannot be ruled out. current expenses. We recommend having with you:

  • confirmation of hotel reservation
    or address details of inviting persons, if the purpose of the trip is private
  • return ticket
  • health insurance

Requirements for a Russian foreign passport

To enter Turkey, a Russian citizen must have a current foreign passport. Different countries have individual requirements for the validity period of documents, and report differently. Some, mostly Schengen countries, consider the validity of a passport from the moment the tourist departs, others - from the day he crosses the border. The latter includes Türkiye.

The validity period of a foreign passport required to visit the republic is 120 days from the date of arrival in the country. If the period is shorter, entry will most likely be denied (unless there are other compelling reasons). It’s better to play it safe and have an up-to-date document. If the validity period is expired, then it is recommended to submit an application for a new document no later than two months before the date of departure to Turkey, so that possible delays by authorized Russian services do not become the reason for refusal of entry into the country.
