Officially, this document is called Indian arrival/departure card for passengers; you can fill it out on the plane or at the Indian airport before passport control.

The required fields are written in English. Before departure, you must fill out a similar card - Departure card India, the fields of which are similar to the fields of the migration card of arrival in India. Information from arrival and departure cards is required by India's Migration Police, the migration control service. For India, there are several options, one of which applies to everyone living in the country (NRI), another option is required for foreigners with Indian roots (PIO), and the third is suitable for everyone else (OCI).

Information about the arrival flight, residence address in the country and departure is required.

The migration card requires you to write the tourist’s contact information. There is no need to write anything in paragraph 17 and 18 if you do not have Indian citizenship.

This is what a state-issued migration card looks like. This is a document confirming the legality of a foreigner crossing the border. Part A is entry, it is torn off and registered at customs. Part B is exit, it is handed over to the foreign citizen and is kept until the moment of crossing the border in the opposite direction.

Both parts must be completed by the migrant only in person. All data is entered in full accordance with the data indicated in the civil or foreign passport. If the migrant does not speak Russian sufficiently, it is allowed to fill out the form in Latin block letters.

When filling, you can use a ballpoint pen with black or blue ink. The card form is small, there is quite a bit of space, but nevertheless, all inscriptions must be clearly readable; blots, strikeouts, and corrections are not allowed.

Important! The part of the migration form under the inscription “for official marks” is not filled out by the person crossing the border. All marks on the map are made by border control officers.

What to do after arriving in Russia?

Upon arrival in the country, you must register for migration. In accordance with Federal Law No. 109, registration must be carried out no later than seven days from the date of crossing the border.

There are several exceptions to this rule, for example, for residents of Tajikistan the period has been increased to 15 days, and residents of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan can register within 30 days.

Migration registration using an arrival card is called primary registration. It is issued for 90 days. During this time, the foreigner has the right to stay in Russia. After this period, the migrant must leave the country and obtain a temporary residence permit or a labor patent.

Application for a visa to India

To obtain a short-term visa to stay in India for 30 days, you need to fill out a special tourist form:

  • The first page contains contact details and general information about the type of foreign passport, the nationality of the visa applicant, his date of birth and the date of entry into India. The applicant indicates the required type of visa and confirms consent to data processing. Applications received from residents of all regions (with the exception of the consular offices of St. Petersburg and Vladivostok) are processed in Moscow. In St. Petersburg, applications are accepted from applicants living in the Leningrad, Murmansk, Pskov, Novgorod, Vologda, Arkhangelsk regions, the Komi and Karelia republics;
  • The second page is a 35x45 mm photograph of the applicant. You can upload an image of a minimum size (no more than 300 KB);
  • The third page provides detailed information about the foreign citizen. It is mandatory to indicate gender, religion, maiden name, place and date of birth, and passport details. The same verification number must be placed at the bottom of the document as at the beginning of the page;
  • For divorced and unmarried citizens, the fourth page will remain practically blank. Information about the spouse, parents and children is indicated here;
  • The fifth page contains information about the date of the visit, place of arrival, and duration of stay in the country.

After filling out the form, the applicant uploads supporting documentation in his personal account.
After printing the Indian visa application form 2021, the foreign national must appear at the Indian Visa Application Center. The questionnaire is valid for 1 month from the date of completion. If the applicant does not visit the country's representative office within this period, the document will need to be filled out again. The printed form must be certified with your signature in two places: on the first page (directly under the personal photo) and at the bottom of the second sheet. After printing the form, all that remains is to paste the photograph and attach photocopies of supporting documents.

List of documents for obtaining a visa

The applicant must provide:

  • application form in English and a foreign passport valid for at least six months;
  • a photocopy of a foreign passport with a personal photograph;
  • internal Russian passport and its photocopy (pages with photo and registration stamp);
  • two matte photographs 35x45 mm;
  • document confirming your hotel reservation;
  • return ticket or travel to another state;
  • certificate of bank account balance (not a mandatory document, but desirable).

Useful tips

1. When indicating the number of a foreign passport (regular or biometric), you must enter only numbers. For example, the applicant was issued a passport number 65 No. 7235674. In this case, you need to write 657235674 in the appropriate field. If the passport is biometric, there is no space. If the data is entered incorrectly, you will need to fill out the form again at home. An on-site re-registration service is available for an additional fee.

2. When filling out the “Place of Issue” column, copy the exact data from your passport (for example, “FMS”). The established form will not allow you to indicate numbers. But when accepting the application, the inspector may require you to provide numbers or write “FMS Moscow”. It all depends on the wishes of a particular official.

3. Particular difficulties arise when filling out the “Job” field. If the applicant is not officially employed (freelancer), in the fields with the address of the employing company and contact phone number, you must write “NO”.

4. Official representatives accept documents printed on one side. You cannot photocopy or print on both sides of the sheet. Sheets smaller than A4 are not accepted. When filling out the fields of the e-visa application form, double-check the accuracy of the specified data. If inaccuracies or errors are noticed after submitting the application, it will be impossible to return the application form and make changes to it.

Specifics of obtaining a visa for children

If you are entering India with minor children, they will also need a visa. Before your visit, make photocopies of your birth certificate, mom and dad's passports. If a child enters India with one of the parents, you will need to obtain a notarized permission from the other. An e-visa for children is paid according to the general procedure. There are no benefits for minor travelers: the Indian authorities have set a standard price for everyone.

The application form for a visa for minors to India must be filled out according to the same rules, with the exception of the following points:

  • in the column “Passport number” the data from the birth certificate is indicated;
  • in the “Place of work” column, you must indicate the number of the school where the child is studying. If a preschooler is traveling, this field may not be filled out.

What points in filling out the migration card may cause difficulties?

Tear-off part B of the Russian migration map.

It is necessary to enter personal data strictly according to the identification document presented. The most questions arise when filling out two columns: the receiving party and the purpose of the visit . It is very important to provide truthful information here. The receiving party can be relatives, friends, legal entities, in whose living space temporary registration will be carried out.

As for the purpose of the visit, you need to write truthfully, because if migrants go for the purpose of working, and indicate, for example, a visit to relatives, it will be impossible to issue a patent. If “tourism” is indicated, it is necessary to provide a tour package, and for treatment, a referral to a Russian clinic, sanatorium, etc.

Important! After crossing the border, it is impossible to change the purpose of the visit, which is indicated on the migration card. To carry out work activities, you will need to travel abroad again and re-enter.

Is it possible to extend the validity of a Russian migration card?

In general, the migration card is valid for one year, but in order to take advantage of this right it is necessary to conclude an employment contract within 90 days, confirmed by a patent for the right to work. Extension of a migration card for a period of more than a year is not possible. There are several legal grounds that will allow you to stay in the Russian Federation after the expiration of the migration card:

  • registration of a labor patent;
  • for medical reasons (late pregnancy, being in intensive care, surgery, etc.);
  • received RVP;
  • undergoing training (full-time study) in one of the educational institutions of the Russian Federation.

An employer can also submit a request to extend the validity of migration registration. It looks like this:

What should you do if your migration card has expired or is lost?

Before the expiration of the period of stay provided for by law, the migrant is obliged to leave the country, then he can re-enter. If, after the expiration of the validity period, a foreign citizen remains on the territory of the state, this is illegal. Penalties are provided for this violation (Article 18.8 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, Part 1). The fine amount will be from 2 to 5 thousand rubles; for Moscow and St. Petersburg this amount increases to 7,000 rubles.

In addition, a foreigner may be expelled from the country. Repeated violations may result in a ban on entry into the country for a period of 5 years.

If your migration card has been lost, it can be restored. To do this, you need to contact the migration department of the GUVM at the place of registration. To receive it, you must submit a claim for loss. It is submitted to the police department, and a corresponding certificate is issued. But you can restore the card only if it is registered and its validity period has not yet expired.

Important! If you are offered to buy a migration card, this is a fake document. The card is issued in person to the person crossing the border free of charge.
