That is, if a person in the past was a resident of the Armenian Republic, but for some reason refused it, then he has every right to apply for the restoration of his status. Here you can read more about the standard of living in Armenia https://visasam.

Acquiring citizenship
Many migrants who want to live in the territory of the Armenian Republic on a permanent basis must take care of obtaining resident status of this country.
Only this status provides them with the opportunity to enjoy all social benefits, participate in elections, receive various types of benefits and payments, and most importantly, live in the country legally.
It is also easier for its citizens to find work in Armenia than for foreigners.
This is what an Armenian passport looks like
But it is worth remembering that immediately upon arrival in Armenia, a foreigner will not be able to obtain citizenship. There are several requirements for candidates who wish to become full citizens of this country. The main ones are:
- Coming of age. A foreigner who has not yet turned 18 years of age does not have the right to independently apply for Armenian citizenship.
- Residence in the territory of the Armenian Republic for the last three years.
- Knowledge of the national language of Armenia.
- Knowledge of the constitutional norms of the Armenian Republic.
In order to apply for citizenship, you must know the Armenian language very well. To check the level of language proficiency, a foreigner must undergo a test of language and constitutional knowledge immediately before receiving this status.
Exceptions
There is a category of people who are not subject to special requirements for obtaining the status of a citizen of the Armenian Republic. This category of the population includes foreigners who:
- Entered into an official marriage with a resident of this country.
- They have special services to the Armenian Republic.
- Voluntarily renounced residency after 1995.
If a child has parents who are or were residents of the republic, but is not himself a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, he has the right to apply for citizenship. He can apply only from the age of 15. In this case, the above-described requirements will not be imposed on the child with such data.
Documents for obtaining a passport
To obtain Armenian citizenship, a representative of another republic must apply to the authorized body located under the government.
The foreigner must submit to this organization a package of documents consisting of:
- Applications for citizenship.
- Autobiographies.
- Home country passports. Moreover, you will need not only the original passport, but also its copy.
- There are four photographs. The size of the photo is very important: 35 by 45 millimeters.
- Medical certificate. This document must confirm that the candidate does not have diseases dangerous to the population.
These documents will be required for foreigners who want to obtain Armenian citizenship based on residence in the territory of this republic for the last three years.
If a foreign representative entered into marriage with a resident of Armenia, then a certificate confirming the fact of marriage will also need to be attached to the main package of documents.
The organization may also ask you to provide your spouse’s passport.

If people have children together, their birth certificates will also be required. If a foreigner is not a resident of any country, then the list of his documents is greatly reduced.
He must bring a driver's license and a document indicating that the foreigner has the right to reside in the territory of Armenia (residence permit).
All documents must have originals and copies. Also, all documentation must be translated into Armenian and certified by a notary. Assignment of Armenian citizenship is possible only after the foreigner signs a renunciation of the citizenship of his native country. After this, the foreign representative is issued an Armenian passport, and he is considered a full resident of this republic.

Residents of countries that allow dual citizenship do not need to sign a waiver.
Obtaining citizenship by Armenians
Quite often there are situations where an Armenian by origin is a resident of another country. If an Armenian wishes to become a citizen of the Republic of Armenia and obtain a passport of a citizen of Armenia, he must apply to the government agency within three months from the date of entry into Armenia.
In an organization, an Armenian by origin must submit a package of documents consisting of:
- Passports.
- Birth certificates. You will need to bring the original and a copy certified by a notary.
- A certificate confirming the absence of diseases dangerous to the population of Armenia.
- A certificate confirming that you have no criminal record in your home country over the past ten years.
Sample certificate of no criminal record
For those of Armenian origin, obtaining resident status will require passing an Armenian language test. A person must submit all documents within three months. If he successfully passes all the tests, he is issued a residence permit.
According to the simplified scheme for obtaining citizenship, a person will be able to become a resident of Armenia in just six months. But this procedure can take up to two years.
A residence permit is issued for six months.
If, after this time, the Armenian was denied residency, then he can extend the residence permit for another six months and, after this period, try to reapply for citizenship.
Double citizenship
Thanks to the new bill regarding dual citizenship, Russian residents have the opportunity to become citizens of Armenia without signing a renunciation of Russian citizenship. Persons with dual citizenship are subject to the same requirements as other foreigners. They must also have lived in Armenia for 3 years and have a good command of the national language.
Tell me, I was born in Armenia, but I have Ukrainian citizenship. My mother is in Armenia. I speak Armenian well. My sister has a grandfather in Armenia. To get Armenian citizenship, what else do you need to do for this? More precisely, they didn’t say everyone to get Armenian citizenship, you need to go there army Is this correct or not thanks

Grounds for acquiring Armenian citizenship
It is worth noting that from 2021 it will be much easier to obtain Armenian citizenship. In many respects, this is because the government of the country has allowed the registration of citizenship without the requirement to renounce citizenship of another state.
But this rule applies only to those countries with which Armenia has concluded international agreements.
By birth and origin
The easiest way to become a citizen of Armenia. If a child was born on the territory of Armenia or abroad, but his parents are citizens of the country, then the baby automatically receives the citizenship of the parents.
If a child was born in a family where one of the parents is a citizen of Armenia, then with the consent of the second parent, the child also acquires citizenship.
When a child was born on the territory of Armenia, to citizens who do not have citizenship, then he also cannot claim citizenship.
However, if the child was found without parents, and information about their citizenship is unknown, then the child is sent to a special children's institution and receives Armenian citizenship.
If the child’s parents were citizens of the republic until a certain point, but then, for certain reasons, renounced their citizenship, the state offers such people a simplified opportunity to return their status. And after registration, the child can take the citizenship of his parents.
Naturalization
Acceptance of citizenship by naturalization is the most common way to obtain an Armenian passport. Article 13 of the Constitution of Armenia specifies the conditions that apply to a candidate for naturalization.
- He must be an adult.
- Reside permanently for three years in the territory of Armenia.
- Know spoken Armenian.
- Respect the laws of the country and the Constitution.
It is worth noting that the requirements of Armenian migration legislation are not as strict and severe as in a number of European countries. Some citizens are even subject to simplified conditions, which are characterized by a reduction in the term.
As a rule, such a rule applies to persons who are valuable to the state.
Marriage
Marrying an Armenian citizen guarantees a simplified procedure for obtaining citizenship. Just like in the naturalization process, there are certain requirements that a future citizen must meet.
- Basic knowledge of the Armenian language.
- Respect for the Constitution.
- Age of majority.
However, it is not necessary to reside in the country for more than 3 years. If a marriage has been registered, then you can declare your desire to be granted citizenship after one and a half years from the date of registration of the relationship.
Double citizenship
Armenia treats issues of dual citizenship without fanaticism. There are a number of states with which the country has entered into a settlement agreement. In accordance with this agreement, citizens have the right to obtain Armenian citizenship without renouncing their original citizenship.
A person with dual citizenship is called a “bipatriate”. These citizens have passports of two countries at once.
Thanks to the fact that the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia have concluded an agreement with each other, citizens living at the bottom of the country have the right to retain dual citizenship of both Russia and the Republic of Armenia, which is very convenient.
However, apart from a simplified procedure for crossing the border, such a status will not give anything.
Receipt procedure
In order to obtain Armenian citizenship, it is necessary to complete a number of sequential actions. Let's consider what is required of future residents.
Submitting an application
A pre-compiled application is submitted along with the package of documents. It must be drawn up according to a strictly established template. You can fill it out yourself or fill it out directly at the institution where the documents are accepted.
The application is drawn up on a blank white sheet of A4 format. It is better to print the form in advance.
- The name of the document is indicated in the middle.
- Below is a request for admission to Armenian citizenship in one order or another (simplified or ordinary).
- The motives that prompted the citizen to make this application are established.
- Information about the citizen is indicated. These are initials, date of birth, place of residence, gender, citizenship, and so on.
- The application is accompanied by a questionnaire in which the citizen introduces himself to the employees of the body receiving the application.
Important! The application form can be obtained from a special department at the government office in any city in Armenia.
Required documents
Special attention is paid to the correct formation of the package of documents. The authorized body, which is located under the Government of Armenia, accepts documents.
OiYM
The future citizen of Armenia must provide a comprehensive package of documents and only in this case can he apply for citizenship. What will it include?
- A preliminary application for citizenship.
- Written autobiography with translation.
- Passport and photocopy of the passport of the country where the person has citizenship.
- Color photographs in the amount of 4 pieces.
- Medical certificates received on the territory of Armenia and confirming that the citizen does not have diseases dangerous to the residents of the state.
If representatives of the commission have any questions for a citizen, they may require additional documents that clarify this or that point. For example, they may be asked to provide the spouses’ passport or children’s birth certificate.
Timing and cost
Documents are reviewed within 1 to 3 months, after which the citizen is notified of the decision.
The timing may vary depending on the individual situation.
If a citizen turns to organizations that provide mediation in obtaining citizenship, then he must be ready to pay a round sum for the services. On average, the cost of obtaining citizenship will be from $300 and above, depending on the individual situation.
If a citizen independently carries out registration, then in such a situation he must be prepared to pay a state fee of $ 100 or more.
There may be additional costs associated with registration and assistance in these matters.
Why can you get rejected?
Unfortunately, there are many reasons for receiving a refusal to accept a package of documents, which means that dreams of Armenian citizenship will be destroyed. Let's consider the most common reasons that result in refusal to accept documents.
- The citizen submitted an incomplete package of documents. It doesn't matter that he couldn't get these papers or they were lost. The absence of documents from the list indicates that the person applying to the Department does not respect the requirements of the law and does not want to obey them.
- Wrong translation. A citizen is required to know the Armenian language at least at a conversational level. If a person translated the papers incorrectly or drew up an autobiography incompetently, then the commission staff have every right to refuse citizenship, advising the person to apply for citizenship when the level of language proficiency is higher.
- Invalid translator ID. Most often, an autobiography and other documents are prepared for a citizen by a translator. The translator must leave his certifying signature so that the members of the Armenian Citizenship Commission have an idea of who is providing assistance. If the ID is incorrect, the person will be refused.
- Providing illegal documents. For example, transferring papers that are counterfeit or untrue.
- Citizenship will not be granted to persons who have alimony debts or are bankrupt in their state.
- In Armenia, great importance is attached to the moral character of the citizens who apply. If police officers complain about him, unflattering comments from neighbors, at work, and so on, the person will be denied citizenship until he corrects his opinion about himself.
Is it possible to have dual citizenship from the point of view of Russian legislation?
From the point of view of the Russian authorities, the situation in which a person has dual citizenship in the Russian Federation is completely legal - you can have two passports in accordance with the provisions of Art. 62 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation. However, the Russian must notify the Main Directorate for Migration Issues (GUVM) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs about this.
How to notify Russian migration authorities about having a second citizenship
If a citizen of the Russian Federation has received the citizenship of another state, he is obliged to notify the Main Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs about this within 60 days. The countdown will begin from the moment he receives his second passport.
You can report that a person has dual citizenship with Armenia:
- by personal contact;
- by sending a notice by mail;
- through an authorized representative who has a notarized power of attorney.
If the 60-day deadline for submitting a notification has been violated, the citizen may be subject to administrative liability in the form of a fine in the amount of 500 to 1000 rubles.
If the notification of second citizenship was not submitted purposefully (for example, in order to occupy some position in government bodies), then such a person may be subject to administrative liability in the form of a fine or 400 hours of community service.
Visa-free countries for citizens of Armenia
Every year more and more countries open their borders to travelers. Armenia is no exception.
Thus, citizens of Armenia have the right not to obtain a visa to visit the following countries:
- Russia;
- Kyrgyzstan;
- Kazakhstan;
- Belarus;
- Tajikistan; Uzbekistan.
Citizens of Armenia are allowed to stay for about 30 days in a visa-free regime on the territory of Montenegro. Georgia is also ready to accept Armenian citizens. It offers border crossing with only one foreign passport.
Entry into some European countries is also open. For example, in:
- Greece;
- Slovakia;
- Finland;
- Romania;
- Croatia;
- Poland;
- Estonia;
- Bulgaria and so on.

But not only Russians dream of citizenship of Armenia. The representatives of the solar state themselves also want to stay in Russia, since there is much more work, territories, and climatic zones here.
General procedure
- After arriving in the country, a citizen must obtain a temporary residence permit. As a rule, a temporary residence permit is valid for a couple of years, after which you can obtain a residence permit.

The simplified procedure is applicable in cases when we are talking about preferential categories of citizens. To do this, an Armenian must correspond to one of the categories of persons that are presented in the list in the paragraph below.

The following citizens have the right to rely on a simplified procedure.
- Persons who are married to a citizen of the Russian Federation.

Who can become a Russian?
A resident of Armenia can essentially become the owner of a Russian passport in two ways, which we will describe below. However, first, let's answer the first - logically - question: which Armenian citizen can apply for Russian citizenship?
First, the person submitting the application must have legal capacity. Secondly, he must be at least 18 years old - minors cannot initiate this process on their own. Thirdly, the candidate must provide evidence of proficiency in the Russian language - in the manner determined by the legislation of the Russian Federation.
But this, of course, is not all the requirements, a full list of which can be found in a separate article dedicated to obtaining citizenship. Among other things, you will not be able to become a Russian citizen until you write an application to renounce Armenian citizenship. Alas, the law requires you to decide: it is impossible to sit between two chairs. Fortunately, for this you do not have to return to your homeland: the mentioned application can be submitted at the Armenian embassy in the Russian Federation.
