For how long is a residence permit issued?
Previously, a residence permit in Russia was issued for a period of 5 years. After the expiration of this period, a foreign citizen could extend it for another five years. And the number of such extensions was not limited. But in November 2021, amendments were made to the law, according to which a residence permit can be issued once. After that, there is no need to renew or re-issue the document. The status will have an unlimited period of time. The residence permit needs to be changed only upon reaching the age of 14, 20 and 45 years, and if personal data has changed, such as last name, for example.

Advantages of a residence permit
• Unlimited period of residence in Russia. You can live, work, raise children on the territory of the Russian Federation while remaining a citizen of your country. • Unlike a temporary residence permit, a foreign citizen who has received a residence permit is not tied to the region in which he received the migration document. That is, having received a residence permit in Crimea, he can freely move and live in Krasnodar or Moscow. • The ability to get a job without additional documents, such as a labor patent. The list of documents is almost the same as for a citizen of the Russian Federation. Although some employers, who do not understand or are not aware of the law on residence permits, think that there is a need for special documents. • A residence permit allows you to take out a compulsory health insurance policy (CHI) free of charge. This gives a foreign citizen the right to receive services in public clinics, hospitals, and to call an ambulance. • Upon retirement, a foreign citizen with a residence permit will receive an official Russian pension. • In most cases, a foreign citizen must obtain a residence permit in order to subsequently obtain Russian Citizenship.

Many foreigners arrive in the Russian Federation for various purposes. Someone wants to find a suitable place of work, to get away from the difficult political situation that is developing in their native state, and for others, this is a chance to move to a permanent place of residence with their loved ones or relatives. To live on the territory of the Russian Federation on a legal basis, a foreign citizen must go through a number of official procedures, which include obtaining a temporary residence permit. This document is issued for three years. At the same time, every year a citizen must confirm it. What does this procedure include, and what documents may be required from a migrant to confirm a temporary residence permit in 2021?
The procedure for obtaining a residence permit according to the general procedure
If you do not belong to any of the list of grounds, then the procedure for your actions is as follows: 1. Register for migration, if you have just arrived in the Russian Federation, within 7 days. To do this, you need to visit the Main Department of Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the MFC, or the Russian Post with a passport. If you do not have your own home, come with your host (the owner of the apartment) and he will register you. 2. Next, apply for a temporary residence permit (TRP). There are some nuances here. To obtain a temporary residence permit, you need grounds, for example, the husband/wife is a citizen of the Russian Federation. If there is no reason, try to get a quota, of which a limited number is allocated per year.

As a result, you will be given a certificate, which must be attached to the list of documents. 5. Take an exam on knowledge of the Russian language, if you have not previously received education in the Russian Federation. 6. Take 4 photographs 35x45 mm 7. Fill out an application in 2 copies. The form can be obtained from the Main Department of Migration Affairs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. 8. You make a translation with notarization of your passport 9. What to do after receiving a residence permit
When you have received the document in your hands, you need to formalize official registration in the Russian Federation within 7 days. She's registered. Permanent registration is required, not temporary. It is possible to receive it on the day of submitting the application there, at the Main Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This is a note in the residence permit book. To obtain it, you need to provide a passport, residence permit, application (a sample will be issued there), a document confirming the use of housing, and a receipt for payment of the state fee.
This is the entire procedure for obtaining a residence permit yourself. The list of documents and places to visit is not small, considering that they are located in different parts of the city.
Add to this the lack of pre-registration in most places, the cost of travel, and the time it takes to find all departments. You will have to return to some places more than once.
And given the human factor and the large number of people in queues, there is no guarantee that you will be able to collect all the documents the first time. There is a possibility of errors that will appear when submitting documents, which is why you will need to spend more time to eliminate them.
